To the One Who Endured Love Through Hardship
By the Poet and Writer Mustafa Youssef Al-Qashlan
O you who endured love through hardship,
and prayed to the Lord for my love with patience,
the appointed time came, and the blood was shed.
So praise be to God as a lifetime passes in a moment,
and thanks for a false covering of air.
Let today die in silence.
How much foolishness was nothing but play, nonsense, and transgression.
The foolish one is words, letters, and speech;
there will be no one left to sever the ties of kinship.
My destiny was written on paper, and the red garment passed in silence.
We raised the banner of Islam as brothers, with patience,
and returned with the children through oppression and humiliation.
God’s decree upon the earth is ever effective.
Love has become terror, threats, and words.
Leave the substitute aside; how many of the rabble
embrace the dust and kiss the feet of the earth.
O you who have squandered the dignity of a country,
wanting us to live with bowed and broken necks,
pray to God, and my people rose in anger.
Shame is but dust, O humiliated one of the earth.
Farewell, silence, and prayer.
God has dealt with the enemy of Islam,
casting him among the rabble.
There is no weeping, no oppression, and no ink,
for God’s help came without ink.
He defeated the confederates alone,
and covered the earth,
while the mountains moved without ink.
So smile the smile of disappointment and fear.
Had we prayed to God, you would not have been lying wet upon the earth.
Peace to the one who learned and lived by wisdom,
and became engraved upon the heart.
Do not look for a day, a month, or an age;
the opening of Islam came with its supporters and appeared,
and they entered the lands after humiliation and oppression.
Had it not been for the purity of faith,
they would have been slaughtered upon the earth.
So wait for a day when the sword comes to you,
and the birds of the pipes from the Lord;
we cut off the head,
and God will remove the tail from the earth.
