Valentine's Day
Dr. Muhammad Tawfiq Mamdouh Al-Rifaei
My beautiful lady, I beg your pardon
From today I will not write my feelings for you on paper
I won't put it in my love letters
I will not send you red hearts
Surrounded by elegant frames
And bright decorations
It smells of the finest Parisian perfumes
To carry you messages of love and expressions of longing
Through her lines, feelings and the heat of words may be lost
I will no longer pick red roses for you, my lady, after today
I will present it to you when we meet
Or bouquets of colorful flowers
Arranged in bright baskets
To put it under the balcony of your room
On special occasions or holidays
Or on your birthday or Valentine's Day
The flowers wither and their fragrance disappears
The red color fades with time
I am, ma'am
I'm tired of love archived in cards
I'm tired of dated holidays on colorful candy bars
Love, ma'am, is not a rose
Or love lines or words
In my eyes, ma'am
You can read messages of longing when you meet
In it all the holidays are marked
Love does not have one day, it has all days
I celebrate your birthday every day
The moment of meeting
Our birth was at our first meeting
Our meetings are all holidays
Our looks we understand together
Messages of feverish longings
In the folds of the chests, it echoes in the livers
Our kisses are perfumes and chrome wine
When the lips of longing meet, the scent is squeezed
Wine blends with perfumes
Your frantic breaths are coming out of my chest
And deep inside you, my breath is on fire
We sing, we dance
Our hearts are gardens of roses and basil
Its leaves do not wither with the years
And to the tunes
We practice the rituals of lovers’ asceticism
Are you sure, my lady?
That love does not need cards
Or decorated hearts
Or roses that wither after a while
You are my holiday
