Wind sails
Muhammad Tawfiq Mamdouh Al-Rifai
Are you leaving, having captured my heart?
And become the lexicon of my poems and the index of my verses?
From the magic of your eyes, I craft my words.
She said, tears streaming down her face,
With the sunrise, my ships will set sail.
I have left my heart bound to you,
And my kisses are the covenant.
On your hands, I learned the alphabet of longing.
I will make the pages of love poetry sails and meanings. Poetry and love
And your love is my way and my profession
I will sail with words I learned from you
I cherished them, for they are my hope
I scatter their letters like stars, embracing them every day
When my anchors reach the shore of lovers
From its lighthouse I send its fragrance
My kisses, laden with longing, will guide you to my lighthouse if you love me
And the heart is the guide The Yearning One
Sail with the sails of love, striving
At the lighthouse, like a flag, there you will see me
On the shore of the Island of Lovers
And in the depths, like a sea bride, she vanished
My heart trembled with her, aching
I unfurled my sails in her wake
My heart raced after them in haste
And I set sail, heading for the shore of the Island of Lovers
And upon my lyre I play the letters of her name into a song
That sails with longing on the breezes
Perhaps she will return with an echo of a voice
And perhaps the wind will tell her what is in my heart of sighs
The wind cleaved the waves of the sea, taking me
And it drove my sails with it
To where my beloved will meet me
And from afar I cried out loudly
I came to you laden with longing, O flower Lovers,
Open the harbor, let me cast my anchor there,
For I am burning with longing for separation,
Renewing my vow and covenant.
How beautiful are the yearnings that embrace us,
And how sweet is the embrace with kisses.
